Provide information or suggest a future audit topic

The Audit Office of New South Wales is a statutory authority that conducts audits for the Auditor-General. These audits help Parliament hold government accountable for its use of public resources.

Financial audits provide an independent opinion on the financial statements of NSW government entities, universities and councils. They identify whether their financial statements comply with accounting standards and relevant laws, regulations and government directions.

Performance audits review whether public money is spent effectively, efficiently, economically and in accordance with the law. Performance audits can be conducted of NSW government entities, universities and councils, and can include the activities of non-government entities that receive public funds for a State purpose.

When developing our Annual Work Program we consult with stakeholders, including NSW Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, heads of departments and other entities, and integrity agencies, to identify priorities for our performance audit program. The Auditor-General can be required to act on audit requests from ministers or the Treasurer. We also consider the insights of members of Parliament, key stakeholders and citizens, who are invited to suggest performance audit topics using the form below.

We are interested in receiving information that relates to our audit mandate and entities we can audit, including where there may be a waste of public resources or a lack of probity or financial prudence in the management of public resources.

You are encouraged to review our recent performance audit reports and consider the Annual Work Program before providing information or suggesting a future audit topic below.

We do not respond to audit suggestions made using this form, but we do consider all the information and ideas provided to inform our future audit planning and topic selection. If you choose to provide your contact details, we may get in touch to clarify your suggestion or the information.

Please do not use this form to provide sensitive information about an entity we audit, personal information about yourself or another person (other your contact details, which are optional to provide), or to submit complaints.

The Audit Office is not a complaints handling agency. We cannot intervene in decisions made by entities nor direct them to take a particular course of action. This means that we are unable to address individual complaints about other entities we audit. Entities should have information on their websites about how to submit a complaint to them.

If you have concerns about corrupt conduct, you should contact the Independent Commission Against Corruption

If you are concerned about maladministration and/or would like to make a complaint about NSW government entity, university or council, it may be a matter that the NSW Ombudsman can assist you with.

Please note we have Memoranda of Understanding in place with the NSW Ombudsman's office and with the Office of Local Government to facilitate the referral of complaints between us.

If you are a public official and wish to report a serious and substantial waste of public money, please refer to the Make a public interest disclosure page

If you provide us your contact details or other personal information by email or through this website:

  • we will record your contact details and other personal information submitted
  • we will use the information for the purpose for which you provide it
  • we will remove information if there is not a lawful purpose for which we can use it, consistent with record keeping and information protection requirements
