Under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011, health is defined as including both physical and mental health. Nurses and junior doctors may be exposed to situational stressors (i.e. risks associated with the tasks they perform and the workplace environment) and conditional stressors (i.e. shift work and work culture). These factors can affect the health, safety and wellbeing of staff and impact on their ability to perform their role. This audit will assess whether health staff are effectively supported to manage the range of work health and safety risks in hospital environments.
