In the NSW public hospital system, visiting medical officers (VMOs) are not hospital employees but are contracted by the Local Health District to provide specific medical services. The arrangements under which VMOs are remunerated are complex and the total expenditure to VMOs in NSW is significant. This audit examines the efficiency and effectiveness of NSW Health’s oversight and assurance of arrangements to engage and accurately remunerate VMOs.
