This audit is the first in a series of audits examining individual councils under this topic.

Under the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act), councils must apply sound financial management principles that require responsible and sustainable spending and investment and ensure that future decisions consider intergenerational effects and equity. This audit will assess whether MidCoast Council has effective financial management arrangements that support councillors and management to fulfill their financial stewardship responsibilities. 

The audit will seek to answer:

• Does the Council have an effective governance framework for financial management?
• Does the Council have effective internal financial management reporting arrangements?
• Do the financial management governance and reporting arrangements support councillors and management to fulfill their stewardship responsibilities?
