Overview

NSW Ambulance is responsible for delivering ambulance services across New South Wales, including the delivery of the Extended Care and Intensive Care paramedic programs. In its 2021–22 annual report, NSW Health noted a four-year initiative to convert 246 paramedic positions to intensive care paramedic positions, with 73 paramedics commencing training for regional Intensive Care Paramedic positions. Additionally, in its 2020–21 Year in Review report, NSW Ambulance reported the upskilling of 203 Intensive Care Paramedics for regional areas, as well as the delivery of a new fleet of 69 intensive care ambulances, with 50 going to rural and regional New South Wales.
