Phil Thomas was appointed as Assistant Auditor-General Performance Audit in January 2007, and now leads the Audit Office performance auditing functions. Performance audits provide independent assurance to Parliament and the public that government funds are being spent efficiently and effectively, and in accordance with the law.
Prior to this Phil was Assistant Auditor-General Financial Audit with responsibilities including some of the Office's largest and most complex financial audits including the Total State Sector Accounts and Treasury.
Phil joined the Office in 1991. He was previously at one of the large private sector accounting firms, where he held the position of Senior Audit Manager and gained extensive experience in information systems audit, technical services and financial audits.
